Hoofbeats News
March 2012:
Sorry I have not wrote for sometime, life just takes over sometimes. ,,,
1st March we have been joined by the beautiful Maddie, she is on rehabilitation Livery after being written off by the vet as un-rideable due to Arthritis , and the owner and ourselves feel this is not correct but only time will tell.

4th March: We are pleased to announce that we have now secured another extra yard, The plan is that the Dream Scheme/Livery will remain at its current location at Bughill Farm and the rehabilitation horses will move to the new yard. We have a nice size barn that will be used as a small indoor school for our livery/dream scheme members.
But the main reason for taking on this extra yard is to host events to raise funds and our profile. Phase one of the project is to clean up as its not been used for sometime and securely fence the grazing.
We hope to have our first Event soon so watch this space.
6th March: We have had some lovely photos of Maggie sent to us by her wonderful carer Karen.

12th March: One of our team caught up with Kate and dream (Fallon) today, We are hugely impressed with the work that Kate has done with getting Dream happy and well. For those who dont know Dream was one horse who just could not cope with the large herd we have at Hoofbeats, she could not get the weight on and was always hurting herself .... we knew she was really unhappy but how could be re-home a horse that needed so much work, after years of being forced into an outline she was unbalanced and constantly going lame, the work that needed to be done was teach her how to balance herself and this was going to take a long time.
Kate has volunteered at the sanctuary for some time and when we told her about Kate she came to meet her an fell in love and took her home.
Kate has put in months of work just building a bond with Dream, she has come through the winter well and is really happy. and hopefully this summer will be balanced enough to start her ridden work. Thank you Kate for all the love and care you have given Dream. Xxxx

24th March: Bec and Lady starting to build a bond together.

25th March: work on clearing the new yard is going well but its going to take weeks as there is so much STUFF !!! we have nearly cleared the barn out and now starting on what will be the car park and paddocks near the barn. Thank you to everyone who has been coming down to help.

27TH March: Filling haynets is a boring and time consuming job, but here the girls show that you can
have a laugh while doing it ......
.
28th March : We have had a horse in who has had recurring abscesses over the past 12 months, he has been treated by Vets and Farriers in that time, I will not say which of these professionals it is but one has recently been to see this horse and wanted to put it to sleep because there was no more he could do. The horse concerned is very depressed after being stabled for the last two weeks and dropping the weight because of pain.... We asked Ian Whatley to have a look at the horse to see if he agreed..... he did not !!! the pain has been caused by a professional cutting away at so much foot he has exposed the live sole, (shown in the photo) the same as you pulling off you finger nails and then walking on the exposed nail bed. Ian has put a pad on the worse foot (the horse is in to much pain to put a pad on the other one yet, as can not put weight on the worse one. As the fields are so dry he has been turned out, and is looking happier already. we will keep you updated on his progress.

29th March :
Had a really lovely day yesterday with some really lovely people who have kindly offered us 20 acres + more if we need it. As the area is so quite and peaceful we feel that our old and special needs horses would really benefit from with this in mind the owners are kindly going to seed one of the larger fields with special herbs and grasses especially with these horses in mind. The fields will be ready for some horses in about Mid May so this will be a wonderful chance to give the horses in need most to have a wonderful quite life, in beautiful natural surroundings.
